Fingest is one of the smaller Chiltern parishes, six miles south-west of High Wycombe. The famous Norman tower of St. Bartholomews Church dates from the 12th century and is so large that there is a possibility that it was part of the nave of an earlier, perhaps late Saxon church, and that the present nave once served as the chancel.
The massive tower is 27ft square on the outside and 19ft square internally. The nave, which is 40ft by 13ft is of Norman date nd at the west end is a Norman round-headed tower arch. The 13th century chancel is 21ft by 14ft and is little more than an extension of the nave, with only a shallow step back in the north wall.
There are also 'Decorated' and 'Perpendicular' style features to be seen in this church as well as 18th century and Victorian modifications.
